Porcelain Lamina

Porcelain lamina capping is, in summary, the process of “capping the teeth with a porcelain layer”.

Porcelain caps give a natural and aesthetic appearance to the teeth.

What is a Porcelain Lamina Tooth?

Lamina is thin, porcelain caps that are placed on the front and side surfaces of the teeth. It is one of the commonly preferred treatments in aesthetic dentistry. This method of capping teeth, which significantly changes the length, width, color and shape of the tooth, is also part of the smile design. Caps that restore teeth to their natural beauty also provide permanent whiteness and shine.

What Is Porcelain Laminate Used For?

  • Restoration of discolored teeth
  • Improving the structural form and shape of the tooth
  • Joining of split teeth
  • Repair of broken or worn teeth
  • Restoration of crooked and curve teeth

How to Apply Porcelain Laminate?

In porcelain lamina application, a 0.3 to 0.7 millimeter etching process is performed on the tooth surface without cutting the solid tooth. Thus, there is no significant loss of intact tooth tissue. As a result of the dentist’s evaluations, porcelain laminates are prepared to be capped on the tooth surface. The prepared porcelain lamina is designed to be compatible with the tooth structure. Then it is glued to the abraded tooth surface.

What are the Advantages of Porcelain Lamina?

Porcelain laminate has some advantages over other capping treatments:

  • Porcelain lamina fits perfectly with the natural structure of the teeth due to its application after etching on the teeth.
  • Porcelain laminate has a non-discoloring structure
  • Because it is applied after a simple etching process on the teeth, the teeth do not need to be cut or reduced.
  • A demo (mock-up) of the new teeth can be shown to the patient on the copy of the teeth before the porcelain lamina capping.
  • It is resistant to chewing and abrasion because it provides full adhesion to tooth enamel.
